So, the washer/dryer and HVAC in my apartment are still broken, so Saturday nights are spent at the Speedy Wash in Weehawken. We do our grocery shopping during the dry cycle and kill time during the wash.

The following images were created from a series of photographs stitched together using the Photomerge filter in Adobe Photoshop CS3. Each set was taken at different times during the day.

They're not the first shots from my balcony that I've posted. They're not the best quality shots. In fact, it's not even the first panorama of this view (see image below).

And yes, I put the Christmas lights up around 6:00pm.

10:30 I think Photomerge is the coolest thing I've ever seen – EVER.

2:30pm Ok, not much different from the 10:30 shots, but i'm starting to get better at this.

5:30pm This sunset doesn't even come cloe to some we've seen from this vantage point, but it's still gorgeous.

11:30pm Long exposure without a tripod made this one a little blurry. It's still my favorite though.

4:30pm Sunday Dec. 2nd. It snowed this morning, had to do one more.

If this isn't your first visit to flamingblog, you might have noticed the little Barack Obama badge in the right-hand column. I first became aware of Barack during the 2004 U.S. Senate race in which he decimated Republican challenger, Alan Keyes. He solidified his reputation as a plain spoken up and comer with his keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

I recently contributed a small sum of money to the campaign at the request of a dear family friend and campaign volunteer, Cathy Solomon. I was going to send out a link to my own fundraising goal, but I think Cathy's testimony is much more persuasive and I would like to help her reach her goal first. The campaign is counting on grassroots support from people like you, instead of lobbyists and large corporations. Help Barack secure the nomination and change politics to work for us by making a contribution.

As an interactive advertising professional, I am impressed with the breadth of content available to supporters on the internet. So, I have included links and resources below, a starter kit of sorts, to become actively involved in the campaign:

I was watching Flight of the Conchords clips on YouTube ealier today and I stumbled across clips of the White Stripes show that I saw at Madison Square Garden (07.24.07). Lincoln Center's Roots of American Music Festival

My wife's college roommate's brother, Chuck Brodsky, performed at Lincoln Center's outdoor folk festival at Damrosch Park this past weekend. He had a few delightfully scathing tunes for our corrupt administration mixed in with a few sweet ballads, a song about the Philadelphia Eagles, even a Christmas song of sorts. It seems like he is equal parts storyteller and musician. His vocal style is reminiscent of James Taylor or an early, coherent Bob Dylan. Great show.

The Quebe Sister's, a north Texas western swing band featuring three fiddle playin' sisters took the stage after Chuck's set. They proceded to blow the crowd away with their unique sound. It was like the Andrew's Sisters meets O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Aside from some travel related nightmares (It's still a sensitive subject), we had a great afternoon of good 'ol folk, swing, bluegrass, and jazz music.

I started this one during a client call. We were experiencing technical difficulties and I started drawing on my Rhodia pad to pass the time.

Lollapalooza - Saturday Aug. 4th

I was in my hometown, Chicago, this past weekend for the Lollapalooza music festival in Grant Park. My wife, Pam, volunteered a four hour shift at the Tag-a-kid booth helping find the parents of lost kids (btw - that is NOT her in the photo below, just a random volunteer). In-between filing records she had a chance to catch Patti Smith as the super-secret special guest at the Kidapalooza stage.

Unfortunately, I was only in town long enough to catch the Saturday show, but it did not disappoint. Not entirely anyway. CSS had to cancel at the last minute, which forced me to scramble and plot the rest of my afternoon on my pocket-sized schedule and map. It allowed me to catch a few novelty sideshows (Lady GaGa, Josh Hopkins) and surprise main-stage performances (Stephen Marley, The Roots).

Ok, I'm not sure what this one was all about.

Josh Hopkins
CSS cancelled so I had some time on my hands to kill. I mostly wandered around, grabbed an Italian beef, and checked out the t-shirts. I also stumbled across this gem at the Mindfield stage. These guys were fucking hilarious with songs like, Man Crush, and Awesome. I think the dude Man Crush was written for appears in the image below (see flickr for my notes). Rhymefest
Rhymefest was a hometown favorite. They were a little rough around the edges but put on an enegetic show complete with horn section and hip-hop b-boy crew.

Regina Spektor
I have to admit it, Regina Spektor isn't really my cup-o-meat, but I stopped by the adidas stage anyway. Her songs are kinda quirky and she is incredibly talented. Her a capella intro was impressive, but drowned out by the drone of Roky Erikson and the Explosives next door. I hung out with all the teenage girls and curious onlookers for about 30 minutes, took a few pictures for my wife, and was on my way.

Stephen Marley
This was a very, uh, fragrant performance. As with all the Marleys, the roots reggae was spot on. He performed many of the classics. This was a summer outdoor concert no-brainer.

The Roots
I was all over the place during The Roots set, then again, so were they. I wandered in an out of the vicinity of the Bud Light stage, but the frenetic rhythms seemed to follow me wherever I went. Black Thought, ?uestlove and crew rocked the stage for a little over their allotted hour set. They covered Salt n' Peppa, JB, Parliament, and I even think i heard some Biz Markie. And how many hip-hop acts feature a sousaphone? Craziness.

Tapes n' Tapes
I arrived half-way through the Tapes n' Tapes set. They played crowd favorites off Loon and threw in some new tunes that they tried out at the Fillmore in May. It was a solid set and got the day off to a great start. I got a t-shirt taboot.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs put on a great show. When Karen O wasn't spraying beer out of her mouth she was either giving a raw performance or changing costumes.

Spoon
This was probably the best show of the day. They didn't have their horn section and seemed to omit some of the best tracks off their new album Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, but they nailed each song in their set, including favorites such as, "I Turn My Camera On," "My Mathematical Mind," and "Don't Make Me a Target." Pam and I chose to skip Muse and Interpol and leave right after their set.
